Are You Gelly?

***UPDATE: I know it's been well over two weeks since my manicure update, but in my opinion spending the extra money on the Gelish polish just wasn't worth it. At least two of my nails chipped after 2 weeks and it was extremely difficult removing the polish. So I give it 2 thumbs down. Keep the extra $10 bucks in your pocket book girls!!

So today, I went to get my manicure and I noticed the woman before me was getting what they called Gelish polish.  I've heard of it before and have been wanting to try it so I decided to do it today. Gelish applies similar to polish but cures like gel, which supposedly makes your manicure last a little longer. It's about $10 more than a regular manicure, but since I almost always ruin at least one of my nails before I even step out of the salon, Gelish is just what I was looking for!

The prep seemed similar to the regular polish prep. Next, the nail tech applied cleanser, then a multi-part “base coat” of pH Bond, Pro Bond, and foundation gel. The next step is the application of one to two coats of color then application of top coat and the removal of the sticky layer with cleanser. Using a UV lamp, the dry time for each layer is a max of two minutes.

The only down side to Gelish, the polish can be difficult to remove yourself. The nail tech explained that you have to file the top layer first then remove with acetone. I believe the Gelish polish comes in about 40 colors, but unfortunately at the salon I went to, they only had 5 colors. What a bummer! So I went with a natural color. I think I like it! I'll give an update in about two weeks to let you know how long the Gelish lasted!

Nice! Yes I have heard the buzz around gel polish for awhile, but shied away from it due to the price, but luv that it stays fresh longer than regular manicures. I dont get my nails done alot, but I def think Imma try this out next time. Be sure to post an update!

I loved getting the OPI gel manicure. I wore it for about 2 months over the summer. Like you mentioned the only downfall is removing the gel once your real nail grows out. I got up to 3 weeks of wear off one application but I have to admit my nails were left slightly weaker once I finally removed the gel so beware.

I think I just saw that in an ad for one of the high end spas here. I've had gel nails before and they are hard to get off too but lasted much longer than the acrylic ones did and look more natural.
